| POSTERIOR VAGINAL REPAIR-when the bulge into the vagina come from rectum or small bowel it is called posterior vaginal wall prolapse. As with other forms of pelvic organ prolapse(anterior vaginal wall prolapse) childbirth,chronic cough,chronic consipation, obesity are predisposing factor. Symptom are pelvic pressure,an unsightly bulge in the vagina,and constipation. |
| A bulge into the vagina can also be caused by anterior vaginal wall or posterior vaginal wall relaxation(prolapse) and it can occur at the same time. Modern repair uses mesh with excellent success rate. |
| This repair is technically quite challenging and few of gynecologists are trained in the modern repair of this problem. The traditional surgical repair consists of using sutures to bunch up the bulging tissues together. More modern repair consists of the use of mesh and this newer method gives sucess rates over 95 %. |
| In our center this procedure is done in the operating room under intravenous sedation by an anesthesiologist. The procedure takes about 60 minutes to perform. |
